PROMULGATION

For over three decades Paul has worked as an actor/writer in Australia and internationally, as a co-writer for Warner Bros feature length animation Happy Feet Two where he was commissioned to write the characters of the krill, Will & Bill, voiced by Matt Damon and Brad Pitt. He also adapted the accompanying book Happy Feet Two: The Novel, published by Penguin books.

Paul is the recipient of five AWGIE awards (annual awards presented by the Australian Writers Guild) for his contributions to the top rating and long running Australian satirical television series Good News Week.

As an actor Paul received an AFI best supporting actor nomination for his role in The Navigator, directed by Vincent Ward. Other film credits include Wim Wenders epic road feature, Until the End The World and Children Of the Revolution (alongside Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham).

In the guise of his comic alter ego Flacco, Paul has travelled internationally over many years with performances at the Edinburgh Festival and the Montreal Just For Laughs Comedy Festival where he shared the stage with Lilly Tomlin, Jerry Lewis, Ray Romano, Jon Stewart, Steven Wright, Penn & Teller and Drew Carey.

In 1996 Paul received one of Australia’s highest cultural honors when he was named joint winner of the Sidney Myer Performing Arts Award for outstanding achievement in the arts in Australia.

He is the author of six books, including Absent Without Leave - The Private War of Private Stanley Livingston, a biography of his father’s experiences as a front line soldier in WWII, released through Allen & Unwin publishing in November 2013. In 2016 Allen & Unwin published D.A.A.S Their Part in my Downfall, a personal memoir documenting twenty-five years of live performance supporting Australia’s most controversial comedy export The Doug Anthony Allstars.

ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE. THE PRIVATE WAR OF PRIVATE STANLEY LIVINGSTON

November 2013

Absent Without Leave gives a deeply human face to the circumstances of war. Like many WWII veterans, Stanley Livingston spoke little about his time on the front lines, and this book is an attempt by his son to discover the man he had never really known. The result is an extraordinary story about an ordinary man.
